Call for Conference Proposals
The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) is soliciting proposals from ARVO members wishing to serve as an organizer of an ARVO Conference. These conferences are for the purpose of providing eye and vision science content of broad appeal and/or great significance to the field outside the framework of the ARVO Annual Meeting.

Review the Brief Conference Proposal Outline before submitting your proposal.
Proposal and review timelines
To provide members the opportunity to submit their conference concept for consideration by the ARVO Professional Development and Education Committee in a brief proposal format, a two stage process has been developed and the review protocol is as follows:
- Brief proposals will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Review outcome will be provided within 30 days of receipt. If you do not receive confirmation that your proposal was received, please contact us.
- For brief proposals that are favorably reviewed, a full proposal will be requested and must be submitted within 30 days of notification. Full proposal guidelines will accompany acceptance notifications.
- Proposed conference dates must be a minimum of 18 months past the full proposal submission deadline.
Overview of conference formats
Conferences may fall into one of two categories: symposia-style meetings or technical training workshops. These conferences may be organized as stand-alone events or as complementary meetings to other organizations' events.
The purpose of the symposia-style meetings is to promote dedicated discussions on one or more specific research topics of emerging importance to ARVO members. These meetings may emphasize (a) collaborating with cross-disciplinary experts from outside the ocular and vision research sphere and/or (b) reaching audiences from geographic regions with an interest in eye and vision research that are underrepresented at the ARVO meeting. While these two areas of focus are not required for submissions, the proposal review committee (ARVO's Professional Development and Education Committee - PDEC) will consider the potential for the meeting to address one or both of these interest areas.
The technical training workshop format is aimed toward teaching concepts and/or hands-on training in research techniques to trainees, basic scientists and clinicians.Communication with ARVO is encouraged so that we can assist you in planning your proposal.
