There are very sophisticated criminals who create a fake website for ARVO and other large meetings every year. Prior to the pandemic, they were primarily focused on selling hotel rooms that either do not exist or that have been marked up in price. They are now adding registration sales to their scams.

No ARVO-authorized organization will contact you about ARVO Annual Meeting registration. Unless you have initiated the communication, please do not provide anyone with your personal information, especially your credit card number. If you provide your credit card information to one of these companies, your card may be charged and there is no guarantee you will be registered for the Meeting. The only legitimate website for the ARVO Annual Meeting is arvo.org/annual-meeting.

Attendee list scam

If you are contacted by a company claiming to have access to an ARVO attendee list, do not respond to their message, even to 'unsubscribe' to additional messages, as this just informs the sender that your email address is active, and will usually result in additional unwanted email. 

ARVO does not rent or sell your email address to any third parties.

There is no such thing as a "pre-attendee list" which has been promoted recently.

Do not click on any links that look suspicious.

Reporting fraud

If contacted by someone asking if you need to register for the meeting or representing themselves as ARVO, please:

1. Get as much information as you can, such as the name of the company, the name of the person calling, company address, email address and their telephone number. The more information you are able to collect, the better for us to stop them from contacting others. If possible, please request information such as hotel availability and rates or have them send this information to you via email.
2. Contact arvomeetings@arvo.org, with all the details you are able to provide.
