Setting Your Sights - Get Involved
ARVO’s Setting Your Sights Program aims to motivate and guide the next generation of eye and vision researchers from around the world, especially youth from underrepresented groups, by encouraging interactions with current members of the research community. If you are an educator, instructor, researcher, content contributor or student who wants to help build a solid foundation and/or network in this area, we have many opportunities for you to get involved.
Ways to Get Involved
- Become a Setting Your Sights Advocate
- Talk about your career with high-school-aged individuals, college students and others possibly interested in the eye and vision field. Also feel free to suggest potential speakers.
- ARVO staff will assist in reviewing presentation content and materials, plus will provide tools and evaluation mechanisms so you may present in a virtual or in-person setting. Templates will be provided for:
- Outreach email
- Presentation slide deck
- One-page handout
- Attendee survey
- Presentation evaluation
- Submit information on upcoming STEM education or outreach events
- Share STEM course materials and learning tools (e.g., images, videos) that can be incorporated into shareable resources
- Submit information on upcoming STEM contests and challenges (international and national)
- Share information on STEM learning programs offered by your school or institution (e.g., clubs, apprenticeships, shadowing, lab visits)
- Become an ARVO Social Media Ambassador
- Mentor high-school students at ARVO 2023 (more information coming soon)
